Obituary for George Ernest Fowles

George Ernest Fowles, 84, of South Thomaston died peacefully at home with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Rockland, Maine, on November 29, 1934, (Thanksgiving day) to Clyde and Ernestine Fowles.

At the age of 7, George would often be found helping to dismantle the Circus for a little money in his pocket. At 14, he started working on roads driving trucks and George was known to go to the Rockland-Rockport Lime Company to back the trucks in while the drivers napped.
As a young adult, George started the job he would have for the next 49 years, working at George Hall & Sons as a truck driver before moving on to operating the heavy equipment.

In March of 1956, George married his wife, Joan Grierson, and together they had three children.

George had a great love of working on the house that they called home which he built for his family in the late 60's.

In addition to his parents, George is predeceased by many brothers and sisters.

George leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Joan, children, Arlene and husband Roger Dill of Chelsea, Wayne and wife Jean Fowles of Spruce Head, and Roger and his companion Shelly of Appleton.

George is survived by his brothers, Ernest and wife Beverly of Florida, Francis and wife Barbara of Rockland, and Gerald of Rockland.

Grandchildren, Chad and wife Heather Brackett of Surry, Samantha and husband Bryan Morse of Spruce Head, Adam and wife Megan Brackett of Union, Ashley Earl of Brunswick, Justin Fowles and companion Chelsea of Appleton, and Jason Earl and companion Taylor of Union.

Great grandchildren Dakotah, Madison, Molly and Lucas, and his great-grandsons Evan, Elijah and Noah Morse with whom he had a special bond.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the hospice workers for helping us through such an emotional time!

A graveside service will be held at Oceanside Cemetery on Spruce Head Road in Spruce Head at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 28th, with a reception to follow at the United Methodist Church in South Thomaston.
