In Loving Memory
Percy C. Humphrey
8/6/1914 - 2/20/2010

PERCY C. HUMPHREY, 95, the oldest resident of the Town of Brooks, passed away on Saturday, February 20th at Belfast.  He was born in Washburn, Maine August 6, 1914, the son of William Humphrey and Violet Sperry Humphrey.  He moved to Brooks as a young man where he met and married his wife of 73 years, Eliza Lanphier Humphrey, who survives him.   Percy and Eliza began their married life during the years of the Great Depression.  They spent the first winter of their marriage in a logging camp in northern Maine and were very proud of the amount of money they managed to accumulate during that winter.  They later bought a farm in Brooks and became a part of the new poultry industry in Waldo County.

He was a 50-year member of the Brooks Masonic Lodge, Holder of the Boston Post Cane for the Town of Brooks, a former member of the Brooks Planning Board and a former member of Harvest Valley Snowmobile Club.  Percy will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, his love for his family and friends, his great gardening talents and his skill at the card table.

In addition to his wife, Eliza, he is survived by his five children, Arthur Humphrey and his wife Susan of Brooks, Phyllis Humphrey Gaul and husband David of Searsport, Helen Humphrey Marden and her husband Ashbury of Brooks, Geraldine Humphrey Wood of York, PA and Dr. Dennis Humphrey of Brookline, MA.  He is also survived by an older sister, Marjorie West of Newport; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by a son, Wallace C. Humphrey and a daughter Althea Humphrey Turner.

Private family services will be held at a later date.  The family has requested the memorial donations be made to the Brooks Ambulance Squad, c/o Theona “Pony” Stubbs, 870 Back Brooks, Road, Monroe, ME 04951.  On-line condolences may be offered at www.ripostafh.com

My sisters and I just learned of Uncle Percy's passing. Having experienced the loss of our Dad, we would like to express our sincere condolences to Aunt Eliza and all of the family. I enjoyed so much the few times we got to see you! It's one of life's unfortunate twists that it wasn't more often; all of our lives would have been richer for it.
